Wyoming's Asbestos Removal SpecialistsEvery job starts with a lab result, not a guessState notification and the project fee filed by us, before the first cutIndependent clearance air monitoring on every abatement, with the certificate handed to you

Asbestos removal in Wyoming, Michigan typically costs $1,500 to $15,000 for a house, with the price driven by how much material is there and how hard it is to reach, a single run of pipe wrap sits at the low end, a full package of attic vermiculite, floor tile and textured ceilings at the high end. Every job starts with a lab result and a written report before anything is disturbed, and every abatement ends with independent clearance air monitoring and a certificate handed to you. We are Grand Rapids Asbestos, a Michigan licensed asbestos abatement contractor working residential properties only, and Wyoming is one of the Kent County cities we cover.

What's included in a Wyoming abatement job

  • Sampling and lab analysis first. Bulk samples go to an accredited lab. You get a written report naming each material, its location and its result before any cutting, scraping or bagging begins.
  • Containment and engineering controls. Poly sheeting, sealed doorways, negative air pressure and HEPA filtration sized to the room, not a one-size setup dragged from job to job.
  • State notification, filed by us. EGLE requires advance notification of intent to renovate at least 10 working days before work starts, plus the 1% project notification fee. We file it and pay it, you don't chase paperwork.
  • Waste handling. Wet-down, double-bagged in labeled bags, and manifested off site.
  • Clearance. An independent party runs clearance air monitoring after the work area is torn down, and the clearance certificate comes to you.

What it costs

ServiceTypical range
Asbestos inspection and testing$350–$650
Pipe and duct insulation removal$400–$3,500
Floor tile and mastic removal$1,200–$6,000
Popcorn ceiling removal$1,500–$8,000
Vermiculite attic insulation removal$3,000–$12,000
Full asbestos removal$1,500–$15,000

Those are ranges, not quotes. The final cost varies a lot depending on job size, scope, and site conditions, square footage, how many separate materials are involved, whether the attic hatch is 22 inches or 30, how far the work area sits from the front door, and what the lab actually finds when the samples come back.

How the process runs

1. Inspection. We walk the house, look at the usual suspects, boiler and pipe wrap, duct wrap, floor tile and mastic, textured ceilings, attic insulation, and take samples of anything that could be asbestos. Guessing is how people get into trouble.

2. Written report and scope. You get the lab results and a scope that says what gets removed, what stays, and what it costs.

3. Notification. We file with EGLE and wait out the 10 working days. Work does not start early.

4. Containment and removal. The work area gets sealed, put under negative pressure, and the material comes out wet and bagged.

5. Clearance. Independent air monitoring confirms the area is clean. The certificate is yours to keep.

6. Handover. Lab report, notification, waste records and clearance certificate, together, for the sale file or the next contractor who walks in.

What we find in Wyoming houses

Wyoming grew hard after the war. The ranches west of Rogers Plaza and the streets running down toward Buck Creek went up in the 1950s and 1960s for people working the plants on the south side, and the building methods of that decade are still in the attics.

Vermiculite, often buried. A 1959 ranch off Ivanrest Avenue will have vermiculite poured between the joists, and in the 1980s somebody blew fibreglass on top of it. That matters because you cannot tell from the hatch whether the vermiculite is contaminated, it has to be sampled. If it is, the removal qualifies for potential reimbursement through the Zonolite Attic Insulation Trust, and we document the job so a claim can be filed. The fibreglass has to come out with it, which is part of why that line item runs higher than people expect.

Crawl space duct wrap. Lots of these houses have wrapped duct runs in a shallow crawl space. It sits there undisturbed for decades and nobody thinks about it, until a furnace change or a duct replacement puts a knife near it. If you're planning mechanical work, get the wrap sampled first. It's cheaper than finding out mid-job.

Nine-inch tile and black mastic. Under the carpet in the hallway, under the vinyl in the kitchen. Both layers often test positive, and both come up together.
