Grand Rapids's Asbestos Removal SpecialistsEvery job starts with a lab result, not a guessState notification and the project fee filed by us, before the first cutIndependent clearance air monitoring on every abatement, with the certificate handed to you

Grand Rapids Asbestos tests for, removes and clears asbestos-containing materials in houses across Grand Rapids and Kent County. Inspection and lab testing runs $350–$650; abatement runs $1,500–$15,000 depending on the material and how much of it there is. Every job starts with a sample result from an accredited lab, and nothing gets cut, scraped or bagged until you have that written report in hand.

What we test for and remove

  • Asbestos inspection and testing, $350–$650. We sample suspect material, send it to an accredited lab, and give you a written report listing each material, its location and its result. This is the step that decides whether the rest of the work is necessary.
  • Asbestos removal, $1,500–$15,000. Full containment, removal and disposal of the material the lab confirms, followed by independent clearance air monitoring.
  • Popcorn ceiling removal, $1,500–$8,000. Textured ceilings on the main floor and upstairs hallways of mid-century houses. Tested first, because plenty of them come back clean and don't need abatement at all.
  • Vermiculite attic insulation removal, $3,000–$12,000. Loose grey-brown attic fill, common in Grand Rapids homes built or insulated between the 1940s and 1970s. If it tests as Zonolite, we'll walk you through the Zonolite Attic Insulation Trust's reimbursement process.
  • Floor tile and mastic removal, $1,200–$6,000. Nine-inch tile under carpet or a later layer of vinyl, plus the black mastic holding it down. Both get tested separately.
  • Pipe and duct insulation removal, $400–$3,500. Paper-wrapped pipe wrap and mudded elbow joints on boiler lines and ductwork in basements.

Those numbers are typical starting ranges, not quotes. Final cost varies a lot depending on job size, scope, and site conditions, square footage, how many separate materials are involved, whether the material is intact or already damaged, attic access, whether the basement is finished, and how far the waste haul is.

What's included on every job

  • Accredited lab sample analysis with a written report before any material is disturbed.
  • EGLE advanced notification of 10 working days, plus the 1% project notification fee, filed by us, before the first cut.
  • Sealed containment with poly sheeting, critical barriers and HEPA negative air machines.
  • Wet removal methods, double-bagged and labelled waste, and disposal paperwork.
  • Independent clearance air monitoring by a third party, with the clearance certificate handed to you.

How a job runs

1. Walkthrough and sampling. We look at the boiler lines, the attic, the ceilings and behind the furnace, and pull samples of anything suspect.

2. Lab report and written scope. You get the results and a fixed-price quote for whatever the lab actually confirmed. No confirmed material, no abatement bill.

3. Notification. We file with EGLE and pay the project fee. Work cannot legally start until that waiting period has passed.

4. Containment and removal. The work area gets sealed off, air machines run, and the material comes out wet and bagged.

5. Clearance. An independent consultant takes air samples after we've cleaned. You get the certificate, the document a buyer's inspector or the next contractor will ask for.

Why Grand Rapids Asbestos

Grand Rapids is an old-housing city. Heritage Hill, Eastown, Alger Heights and the West Side went up long before anyone worried about asbestos, and the material is still sitting in the basements, attics and ceilings of those houses. Kent County and the state are strict about who is allowed to remove it and when they have to be told.

We're a Michigan licensed asbestos abatement contractor doing residential work only, abatement is the whole job here, not a side line between other trades. You deal with the same crew from the lab sample to the clearance certificate, and you keep both documents so the paperwork is right when the house sells or the next contractor walks in.
